This camp is designed and led by former Olympic Coach Amgad Badawi. Coach Badawi’s pre-season camps focus on skill-building exercises intended to prepare fencers for the first half of the fencing season.
Italian fencers Giorgio Avola and Martina Batini will join Coach Badawi in leading this camp. Mr. Avola, considered by many to have the best footwork in fencing today, will focus on students’ economy of movement and coordination. Ms. Batini will help students with strategy and point control.
Mr. Avola is a two-time Olympian, having earned Gold for the Italian Team in the 2012 London Olympics. He is currently ranked 4th in the world and is in training for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Ms. Batini holds numerous National, Continental and World Titles. She is a member of Italy’s #1 ranked “Dream Team. Ms. Batini is currently ranked 9th in the world as an individual.
IFAD’s gym, constructed in 2016, is a world class fencing facility featuring 13 Olympic size strips with FIE calibrated scoring apparati. Olympic Gold Medalist Giorgio Avola described it as “the BEST fencing facility in the United States.”
